As President Donald Trump continues to challenge the limits of executive power, key Democratic political groups are preparing for the possibility of federal investigations. Two major organizations, ActBlue— the Democratic Party’s primary fundraising platform— and Indivisible, its largest protest network, are consulting with attorneys to prepare for potential legal challenges. Both groups have become targets of Trump’s political allies, who suggest criminal investigations may soon follow. With escalating tensions, these groups are taking steps to protect themselves from potential fallout.

    Democratic Groups Prepare for Investigations

As the Trump administration pushes the boundaries of executive authority, Democratic groups are bracing for potential federal scrutiny. ActBlue, the dominant national fundraising platform for Democrats, and Indivisible, a prominent protest organization, are reportedly working with legal teams to prepare for criminal probes. According to insiders within both groups, they are taking proactive measures to handle any investigations.

Trump’s allies have openly suggested that these organizations could face prosecution. The President’s rhetoric has created an atmosphere of concern among many Democratic operatives who fear becoming targets of politically motivated actions.

Ezra Reese, a political law expert from Elias Law Group, representing several Democratic groups, explained, “Every one of our clients is concerned about being arbitrarily targeted by the Trump administration. We are taking extensive steps to help them prepare.”

Trump’s Allies Back Legal Actions Against Democrats

The idea of pursuing legal action against Democratic groups is gaining traction among Trump’s political allies. Figures like Matt Schlapp, president of the American Conservative Union, argue that Democrats need to face consequences for their actions. Schlapp insists that “someone needs to get burned for all this activity” to deter future actions. His comments reflect the heightened political climate surrounding the Trump administration’s tactics.

Trump’s allies see these moves as a form of justice, given the multiple criminal prosecutions against Trump, which have resulted in felony convictions in New York. Although there is no evidence that President Biden influenced the investigations against Trump, the rhetoric surrounding these cases has fueled calls for retribution.

Trump’s Plan to Target Political Opponents

President Trump has been vocal about his intentions to use federal agencies to target political adversaries. In a recent speech at the Department of Justice, Trump claimed to be the “chief law enforcement officer” of the United States, a role traditionally held by the Attorney General. This claim has raised concerns about the potential weaponization of the federal government.

In a related move, Trump signed an executive order directing the Justice Department to investigate Miles Taylor, a former Department of Homeland Security official who published a critical book about Trump. The order included claims of treason, a charge that could carry severe penalties.

Indivisible’s Role in the Democratic Resistance

Indivisible has become a central player in the Democratic resistance against Trump. The group, which organizes protests across the country, has played a significant role in rallying opposition to the Trump administration. Indivisible’s leadership has held numerous calls with state-based activists and coordinated over 1,000 protests nationwide this year alone. One of the group’s major initiatives was the “Hands Off!” protests, which attracted hundreds of thousands of participants across the U.S.

Despite facing accusations of inciting violence, such as the recent attacks on Tesla dealerships, Indivisible insists that its protests are peaceful and legal. Co-founder Ezra Levin emphasized the need for Democratic institutions to unite and resist the threats posed by the Trump administration. “We must work together to oppose these anti-democratic threats,” Levin said.

The ActBlue Controversy and Allegations of Campaign Finance Violations

ActBlue has also come under scrutiny, with critics accusing the organization of violating campaign finance laws. Key Trump allies, including billionaire Elon Musk, have suggested that ActBlue allowed foreign nationals to contribute illegally to Democratic campaigns. Musk’s statement followed allegations of attacks on Tesla dealerships, which some linked to Indivisible’s protests.

In response to these allegations, ActBlue officials have stated they will cooperate fully with an ongoing investigation by House Republicans, which includes submitting documents and testifying before a congressional panel. Despite the scrutiny, ActBlue continues to process millions in donations for Democratic candidates. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, ActBlue raised more than $400 million, marking a record-breaking amount for the platform.

ActBlue spokesperson Megan Hughes defended the organization’s practices, asserting, “These unfounded attacks have not shaken us. They’ve only strengthened our resolve to fuel Democratic victories.”

    Republican Calls for Federal Investigations

Several Republican lawmakers have called for further investigation into ActBlue. Representatives Darrell Issa and Andy Biggs have specifically requested that the Treasury Department and the FBI probe allegations of campaign finance violations and connections to “terror-linked organizations.” They argue that these alleged violations undermine the integrity of the U.S. electoral system.

Biggs wrote, “If these allegations prove true, they would represent a serious threat to our elections and the safety of American citizens.”

    A Divided Political Landscape

As investigations into Democratic groups like ActBlue and Indivisible intensify, the political landscape in the U.S. remains deeply divided. With the stakes growing higher, Democratic organizations are preparing for potential legal battles while continuing to raise funds and organize protests.

Both ActBlue and Indivisible are committed to pushing forward despite the pressure. Their efforts continue to be a crucial part of the Democratic Party’s strategy as it faces increasing challenges from the Trump administration.
