Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, highlighted the strengthening ties between Egypt and Turkey, emphasizing the progress made in various fields of cooperation. His remarks came during a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Jeddah.

    Growing Egypt-Turkey Relations

Abdelatty commended the increasing number of high-level visits between the two nations, which aim to foster deeper collaboration. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Turkey, underscoring a long history of engagement and mutual interests.

The Egyptian foreign minister pointed out that recent diplomatic engagements reflect a shared commitment to enhancing political, economic, and security cooperation. Both countries have been working to resolve regional challenges, including the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

    Urgent Discussions on Gaza Crisis

The extraordinary session of the OIC, held at the request of Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Iran, and Pakistan, provided a crucial platform for addressing the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza. The session aimed to unify efforts to stop the violence and protect Palestinian rights amid the escalating conflict.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in Gaza, with Abdelatty briefing his Turkish counterpart on the outcomes of the recent Arab summit hosted by Cairo. The discussions focused on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and implement a structured three-phase plan for stabilizing the region.

    Reconstruction and Ceasefire Efforts

One of the key topics was Egypt’s comprehensive plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza. The initiative aims to rebuild essential infrastructure, provide humanitarian aid, and support displaced communities. Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt is actively working on securing a ceasefire agreement and implementing strategies to ensure long-term stability.

Fidan welcomed the outcomes of the Arab summit and praised Egypt’s leadership in driving reconstruction efforts. He expressed Turkey’s willingness to collaborate with Egypt and other regional partners to support Gaza’s recovery and prevent further escalation.

    Regional and International Cooperation

Both ministers agreed on the importance of coordinated international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis. They stressed the need for unified action among OIC member states to pressure global powers into facilitating a peaceful resolution.

Egypt and Turkey also discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade, security collaboration, and cultural exchanges as part of their broader diplomatic engagement. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their partnership in tackling regional challenges and supporting stability in the Middle East.

As Egypt and Turkey celebrate a century of diplomatic relations, their cooperation continues to grow in significance. Their joint efforts in addressing the Gaza crisis reflect a shared commitment to peace, stability, and humanitarian support. With ongoing diplomatic engagements and strategic collaboration, both nations play a crucial role in shaping the future of the region.
