Apple TV+ is set to release its latest comedy series, The Studio, on March 26, offering a behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood’s chaotic filmmaking process. Starring Seth Rogen as a newly appointed studio head, the show follows his struggles to balance artistic integrity with the business demands of the film industry. With an A-list ensemble cast and high-profile guest appearances, The Studio is shaping up to be a must-watch for film enthusiasts.
Seth Rogen as Matt Remick
Seth Rogen takes on the lead role of Matt Remick, a lifelong cinephile who finds himself at the helm of a major Hollywood studio. However, the reality of running the business is far more challenging than he anticipated, from dealing with eccentric actors to persuading legendary director Martin Scorsese to make a movie that doubles as a corporate advertisement.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Rogen shared how daunting it was to direct Scorsese, stating, “My mother called me that morning and said, ‘Oh my God, you have to direct Martin Scorsese. How scary is that?’ I said, ‘Thanks, Mom. Yes, it’s terrifying.’”
Rogen, best known for Superbad, Knocked Up, and Pineapple Express, will next appear in Good Fortune, alongside Keanu Reeves, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh. Off-screen, he has been married to Lauren Miller since 2011.
Catherine O’Hara as Patty Leigh
Comedy legend Catherine O’Hara plays Patty Leigh, Matt’s mentor and predecessor at Continental Studios. Initially reluctant, she was convinced to take the role by Rogen and co-creator Evan Goldberg. In an interview with Forbes, O’Hara revealed, “They made it sound so fun and informative. Then the scripts came in, and they were hilarious.”
Known for Beetlejuice, Home Alone, and Schitt’s Creek, O’Hara is also set to appear in The Last of Us Season 2. She has been married to production designer Bo Welch since 1992 and has two sons.
Ike Barinholtz as Sal Seperstein
Ike Barinholtz stars as Sal Seperstein, Matt’s colleague and right-hand man, often tasked with handling studio politics. In a Forbes interview, Barinholtz described his character as a “bull in a China shop” navigating the modern era of Hollywood.
Barinholtz, recognized for The Mindy Project and Neighbors, recently co-created Running Point with Mindy Kaling. He and his wife, Erica Hanson, share three daughters.
Chase Sui Wonders as Quinn Hackett
Chase Sui Wonders portrays Quinn Hackett, a former assistant promoted to creative executive. Though the voice of reason in the studio, Wonders revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she embraced her character’s wild side. “They really let me be a freak in this show, and that was so liberating.”
Previously seen in On the Rocks and HBO Max’s Generation, Wonders will next appear in the sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Kathryn Hahn as Maya
Kathryn Hahn plays Maya, a high-powered marketing executive with a sharp tongue. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, Hahn shared that she drew inspiration from real-life Hollywood power players, saying, “There’s an amazing quiet desperation in her that I had a lot of empathy for.”
Known for Step Brothers, Parks and Recreation, and Marvel’s Agatha All Along, Hahn has been married to actor Ethan Sandler since 2002, and they have two children.
Bryan Cranston as Griffin Mill
Bryan Cranston rounds out the main cast as Griffin Mill, a shadowy corporate executive overseeing the studio’s operations.
The Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle star is also a celebrated Broadway actor, having won two Tony Awards. Cranston has been married to actress Robin Dearden since 1989, and they share a daughter.
Guest Stars and Cameos
In addition to its main cast, The Studio boasts a stellar lineup of guest appearances, including Martin Scorsese, Olivia Wilde, Zoë Kravitz, Ron Howard, Charlize Theron, and Adam Scott.
